When I start to think about Kianu, the first person I think of is Alainna Amicone. Now, I realize that Alainna has been nominated for this award at least three or four times but I really truthfully feel that Alainna is the girl with the arrow.

It’s hard to say how long I’ve known Alainna and her family. My uncle has worked at The Fieldhouse since their opening and I would go over with my mom all the time. That’s when I first met Alainna. We used to run around The Fieldhouse, jump on the trampoline, and drink Cherry Coke. Although she was three years older than me, she still dealt with me and never made me feel like an annoying little kid (which I probably was.)
When I was 16 years old, I started working at The Fieldhouse as a Camp Counselor. This was the summer after Alainna had pledged. She kept drawing “XAN” all over things and I was so confused as to what “XAN” was and why it meant so much to her. When it came time for me to pick a college, I chose Muskingum. When I told Alainna about this she was beyond excited. She first made me get on Facebook and then the Kianu talk began.

I can honestly say that Alainna Amicone is the reason I am in this club because I saw how much it meant to her and I really wanted to experience that. Although I may be a foot taller than her, I look up to Alainna tremendously. Alainna has always been there for me, no matter what. She has also accomplished so much while at Muskingum and after graduation.
Alainna and her family are some of the strongest people I have ever met. This statement can easily be seen at a time like this [their family home suffered a fire on April 30, 2009]. Through tragedy, they have stuck together and held strong.
So, when it comes down to it, there’s only one person who I think deserves this award. Alainna Amicone, (soon to be Durfee) is THE Kianu. I love you and you deserve nothing but the best.
Love in XAN and especially mine,
Karlye Himmelspach
