Nomination:

I'd like to recognize Julie McKendry this month as the Girl with the Arrow. Julie is about to embark on a very noble journey and could use all of our thoughts and prayers. You see, Julie has been selected as a bone marrow donor and will begin the medical procedure on December 10.

A few years ago Muskingum had a bone marrow drive on campus. The response from the College and community was tremendous and many people were hoping to be able to help save Maz. Unfortunately, we weren't able to help him, but because of that drive hundreds of names - including Julie's - were added to the national registry. I'd imagine that many people didn't think about getting a call to help someone they didn't know, but about six weeks ago, Julie received that call.

When I think about what Julie and her family have meant to me - Julie was the only senior I knew when I pledged Kianu; to Muskingum - proud and loyal supporters and former employees of our alma mater; and to Kianu - the 'annex' will always be the McKendry House in my mind - I know for certain that she is worthy of this recognition. By helping to save the life of someone she doesn't even know, Julie is both living out her Kianu pledge (who knew it would apply once we left MC?) and is honoring the life of our beloved friend, Maz. I'm sure he's looking down at her with that twinkle in his eye and giving her his trademark 'thumb's up'. We should all be proud of what Julie is doing. Please remember her on December 10.
