Girl with the Arrow

Nancy Fisher '09 (December 2008-January 2009)
Kianu Active

Nancy and KarlyeNancy and Karlye

I would like to nominate Nancy Fisher ’09 for Girl with the Arrow. I first met Nancy when we pledged together freshman year. We became fast friends due to the fact that we were two of the four out of 23 pledges that year that lived on the East Hill. Nancy is one of the kindest hearted and caring people I have ever met. She has always been there for me no matter what throughout the years. I always know that I can count on her.

Not only is Nancy a great friend but she is also a great Muskie and Kianu. The joke in the club is that “Pants” does all these really cool and important things that no one knows about. This past May, Nancy went on a five week trip to China. She was the only girl out of nine people to go on the trip. Nancy is also coauthoring two research articles ("The System Matters: Comparing Student Attitudes toward Learning Outcomes in the U.S. and China" and "Reforming China’s Western Development Program: Turning Toward Education") with her advisor that will be presented at the Southern Political Science Association's Annual Meeting in January 2009.

Nancy is president of the Young Democrats club on campus where she arranged for candidate Zach Space to speak to the college. She also was a First Year Seminar Mentor for her advisor Dr. Walter Huber this semester. This list most likely isn’t even complete because Nancy doesn’t brag about her accomplishments.

I honestly cannot think of anyone else who deserves this recognition more than Nancy. Nancy is one of my best friends and always will be. I am very fortunate to have her in my life.

I love you Pants!

Love in XAN and especially mine,

Karlye Himmelspach '09
