W hen the Chi Alpha Nu Newsletter arrived a
week or so ago and I saw the notice about the "Girl with the Arrow”
nominations, I thought it would be fun to nominate my former roommate and
long-time friend, Erika Holmstrup ('71) Steinbauer. I set the newsletter next
to the computer thinking I'll get around to that later....... However, after
my unexpected phone conversation with her just two days ago, I'm writing to
nominate her today.
Erika graduated with a degree in education and went on to be an elementary
school teacher, an ESL (English as a second language) teacher, went back to
school to get her administrative certificate, became the principal at Cherry
Hill Elementary School in River Edge, New Jersey, and is currently the superintendent
for River Edge Schools. Eleven years ago Erika battled breast cancer and thought
she had won the battle. Unfortunately, routine tests done just a few weeks
ago indicate that the cancer cells are back. Those of you who know Erika know
that she is a very positive, strong person. She is handling this news well,
and is ready to do what needs to be done to win this battle again. Anyone
who would like to send their "hellos" or "words of encouragement"
can reach Erika at: erikajoy (at) cybernex.net .
