As children, most people dream of growing up to be famous movie stars, athletes, or doctors. When I was younger, I wanted to be a mom. That was the only thing I wanted, and my only reason was because I wanted to be exactly like my mother, Harriet. Everyone thinks that their mother is extraordinary in their eyes as a child, but I have grown up viewing how extraordinary my mother was in the eyes of everyone around her. She was the ultimate daughter to my grandparents, wonderful sister to her siblings, and now perfect in everyway mother to my brothers, sisters and myself. She went on to Muskingum in 1977 where she was an education and psychology major, senior resident hall director, member of Kianu and on the Deans List. After graduation she married some crazy Ulster named Mick, and they then had 5 crazy children (which is where I come in). She is the most remarkable woman I know. Between running two businesses, going back to get her Masters in Education from Muskingum, and being the mother of five BEAUTIFUL children I can't tell you how proud I am to call her my mother. In 1996 she was recognized for her achievements in business when she was awarded The Mary Vashti Jones Funk Business Award for all the work that she has done in our family businesses both in Zanesville and in Cleveland. She is a strong, beautiful, and respectable woman that I look up to with the highest ideals. My mom is my best friend. I don’t think I could put into words how truly special my mother is to me. All I know is that when I grow up… I want to be EXACTLY like her.
Love in XAN and Especially mine,
