Alainna Amicone (November 2004)
Kianu Active- Class of 2006

Interview:

AlainnaAlainna
I know your parents went to MC and your Mom was a Kianu. Did she influence you to pledge Kianu?

AA: My mom knew that I wanted to be in a sorority, but she knew I had to make the decision on my own.

Do you remember the first time you ever heard of Chi Alpha Nu?

AA: I was about 10. I was looking through a yearbook with a friend and I found the KIANU page and I saw my beautiful mother smiling from ear to ear on pledge day. Then when I came to Muskingum, the first person I met was a KIANU.

What is your favorite Kianu memory?

AA: Pledge Day... end of story. Granted my pledge day was a lil different then most, but I remember when I got my bid... I looked down at it at least 3 times as I called my mom to tell her. She wasn't too happy that I woke her up, but she said she couldn't be happier for me!

Another memory that I will keep in my mind forever was Homecoming 2003. I met all the alumni that I had heard so much about, and I finally got to put names to faces. Meeting all these wonderful girls made me understand why people always said that we were the best club on campus!

What is your favorite non-Kianu MC memory?

AA: When I sang in Varsity Review my freshman year and I looked up in the balcony and I heard all these people cheering for me and then they came down after and gave me all these hugs. I was on cloud nine that all these beautiful wonderful girls were talking to me, a little nerdy freshman. I didn't know how they knew who I was, but I knew who they were. Then they invited my mom, sister and me to the KIANU house after to have my mom see it.

What do you think could be done to strengthen the Greek community at MC?

AA: I think that the whole community needs to work together to get more people involved! People are members of Greek Clubs, but that is all they are involved in. If we want people to join our clubs we need to show them that you can be involved in things other then the Greek community and still have fun in everything you do.

What is your greatest accomplishment to date?

AA: I don't really think I have had anything that I could say was a great accomplishment, the only thing that I can think of would be the fact that I have grown up a little bit and realize that I can't please everyone!

Besides your Mom, which Kianu has had the greatest influence on you?

AA: Well there are so many alumni that I look up to so much. But, the one person that sticks out in my mind more than anyone is Susan Melhorn. I really didn't get to spend a lot of time with her because she was overseas, but there is no one in this world that I would rather be like than her. She is a strong Christian, hard worker, and beautiful woman that exemplifies KIANU to the highest degree.

When you first visited the Kianu house, what was your first impression?

AA: That I wanted to live there one day! The moment I left the house with my mom I told her... that's what I want to be! I was so jealous of all the girls that got to live there.

What do you want to do after you graduate?

AA: I love Zanesville...So my plan is to go to grad school for Sports Marketing and then come back and run my parents fitness center.

What's the craziest thing you've done this year?

AA: UM... my $200 SPRING BREAK DANCE...leave it at that!!
