I wanted to write to you and urge you to attend one of the upcoming Kianu meetings scheduled around Ohio next week. We absolutely need your support at these meetings as we have important things to discuss. I've heard from several alumnae who don't understand the purpose of the meetings or don't feel they need to be there. Let me explain that we _definitely_ need you there - whether you graduated in 1942 or 2002!
Background:
For a few years the College has been meeting with fraternity and sorority alumni organizations whose active members have gotten themselves into trouble. The College administrators have traveled to these meetings telling the alumni what's happening with their organization, how the alumni need to step in and help facilitate changes, etc.
*This is not the case with the Kianu Alumnae meetings.* The Kianu Alumnae Officers and Board of Trustees approached the Dean of Students in early fall and asked to have similar meetings for an organization that wasn't in trouble. These meetings are a result of our request. The Kianu club hasn't violated any policies, we aren't on the verge of extinction and we're still the best of the best; however, we still need to come together and work toward securing the club's future. *This is the purpose of these meetings.
*We can't continue to make important decisions during Homecoming with 20 people present at the annual meeting. We need you to know what's happening and what's on the horizon. We need your support - not just financially (though, that certainly does help!) - and we need your ideas.
At these meetings we'll hear from Janet Heeter-Bass about the current state of the Greek system. She'll tell us about what works for the organizations and what doesn't work. Our main goal is to be visionary: how we can maintain, protect and preserve the Kianu Club that means so much to us. Both through discussions with Janet and an update from the alumnae association following, we'll talk about ways to keep the club a thriving part of Muskingum College. Please believe me when I say that we need you there to make this a success.
If you're outside of Ohio, the Alumnae Association will send out a notification following the meetings about what was discussed. We do have an Alumnae Officer meeting early in March and will share the information as soon as we're able to compile it.
